Praise for police professionals

EDITOR, The Tribune.

I am inspired to write in praise of the dedicated and professional law enforcement officers of the Fox Hill division of the Royal Bahamas Police Force. I left for work one morning and upon returning home that evening I entered my home and immediately realized that it had been burgled. I called the Elizabeth police station, reported a burglary, gave them the address and waited for the police to arrive.

The uniformed officers arrived promptly. Upon arrival, officer 3348 Wallace and Constable 3387 Coakley introduced themselves, assessed the situation and entered the home. The officers swept the house and established that the criminals had left the building. They came out and asked me to come in and identify what had been stolen. The officers took my statement and called the crime scene officers.

Crime scene officers Corporal 63 Frazier and Constable 3190 Monroe arrived promptly and started to assess the scene. It was now getting dark, the power was off and the generator did not start automatically.

I called Oswald M Moore Electrical services to see if they would come out to address the problem with the generator. I thought for sure that the crime scene officers would say that they would have to come back tomorrow when they could see what they were doing.

To my surprise, the officers decided to wait for the electricians to arrive and started processing the scene, in the dark, using flashlights and cell phone light. Needless to say, this type of dedication and commitment displayed by the officers was very impressive.

I was further impressed that the electricians responded quickly and despite numerous challenges got the generator running in short order. Everything was completed professionally, efficiently and thoroughly due to the commitment of all involved. The professionalism of his group of individuals lessened the impact of an otherwise devastating situation.

Imagine my complete surprise when, a couple of days later, three officers from Fox Hill Urban Renewal 2.0 showed up at the house while I was at work. Seeing that I was not home they called to confirm my workplace and then came to interview me. ASP Antonio Monroe, Constable 492 Clarke and L/S Rahming arrived at my workplace and showed genuine concern about the crime that was committed and reinforced their commitment to build relationships in the communities of the Eastern Division. I accept that my experience may not be the rule throughout the island, but we can only hope that this type of conduct will become contagious. I offer my sincere thank you to all involved.
