POTCAKES and pedigrees shared centre stage on Saturday and Sunday as the Bahamas Kennel Club staged its 34th Annual International Dog Show.

The show took place on the grounds of Bahamas Food Services, and 44 dogs took part, with 17 of those coming from the United States and Canada. There were also several dogs from the Family Islands.

Judges were from the American Kennel Club. The categories judged were Confirmation, Obedience, Rally and Agility.

The winner of Best in Show on Saturday was a Japanese Chin named Kyashi Breaking Dawn, owned by Kathie L Brown. The Japanese Chin is a part of the Toy Group.

The Best in Show Local was won by Sandon N’ Oakhill Small Craft Warning, a Bedlington Terrier of the Terrier Group, owned by Candace Key, of Abaco.

Sunday brought another day of competition and a new winner by the name of Blue Ridge Caesar Bahama Papa Wood. This majestic dog won both the Best in Show Local and the overall Best in Show. Maceo D Wood is the owner of this Cane Corso which is a part of the Working Group.

Between the two days, there were four Bahamian Grand Champions. Destiny Vom Lahberg, a Belgian Malinois of the Herding Group, owned by Bonnie McDonald and Shorelines Bacardi Vom Drakkenfels, a Rottweiler of the Working Group, owned by Elizabeth and Neil Williams and Kimberly Cardona. These two champions joined Blue Ridge Caesar Bahama Papa Wood and Sandon N’ Oakhill Small Craft Warning.

The club encourages responsible ownership by having a spay and neuter class as well as a mixed breed class in addition to the breed class. The show’s sponsors were Purina of Bahamas Wholesale Agencies and Tavares & Higgs Insurance.
