New FNM leader is essential

EDITOR, The Tribune.

Dr Hubert Minnis is a good man. A political leader he is not. Dr Minnis is trying his best to keep at the PLP but I fear the capacity is just not there with him to be a capable Prime Minister.

Right now, the PLP is so weak that it is likely that the FNM would win the general election if it were called today. The problem would then be Dr Minnis in office as Prime Minister.

Dr Minnis has not demonstrated that he has the capacity to handle the difficult issues that come across the Prime Minister’s desk. Can he handle tax reform, energy reform, relations with the Americans, our crime problem, our education crisis, illegal immigration? Most people who follow politics would say no.

The FNM is the alternative government and right now it is being irresponsible. The party has put forward a man in Dr Minnis who is not capable of being a successful Prime Minister.

I hope the FNM rethinks this move before the next election. I hope the FNM sends forward someone else who can defeat Dr Minnis at a convention. That person should be someone who can win and govern.

Our country needs a new leader. Perry Christie is finished. That is an irrefutable fact. Let’s get a reasonable alternative from the FNM. That person is not Dr Minnis.

Absolutely correct. All I see Minnis doing is nipping at the heels of whatever the PLP does. Every week it's a different story.

They do not seem to have any grand plan for moving forward.

They do not concentrate of MAJOR issues like the Freedom of Information Act, reform of the Constitution, Govt spending, and a balanced budget along with tackling foreign debt.

How come they let go of the VAT issue? Where is the VAT money going? How much was the debt on Dec 31st 2014? And how much is it today? How much increased by more borrowing, how much by interest, and how much paid down from the normal methods prior to 2015 and how much paid down from VAT? Minnis could be asking these questions every week - but instead he hops on whatever clown thing the PLP puts on the stage for this week's entertainment.

He needs to focus on the steering wheel, and the radar, not the fiddlers on the deck of the ship. I wish him the best in his efforts to help our country however he can - before we hit the iceberg.

Most 3 year-olds have a greater attention span than Minnis. In fact, they probably also have much more cognitive ability than Minnis can ever hope to have. If Minnis is left to lead the FNM in the next election, FNM candidates will assuredly be left with few votes in their favour. If Minnis isn't removed by the FNM political apparatus well ahead of the next general election, voters will see to it that he is removed during the election and there will be more independent MPs than FNM MPs in the next House of Assembly. Minnis must be tossed aside so that financial support for the FNM can be unleashed. Giving funds to the FNM with Minnis at the helm is widely recognized as being equivalent to flushing money down the proverbial toilet!
