CARNIVAL expert Clarence Moe, the former CEO of the National Carnival Commission of Trinidad and Tobago, said yesterday he believed that the inaugural Bahamas Junkanoo Carnival was “extremely successful”.

Mr Moe, who headed the Trinidad and Tobago Commission for over 15 years, has served as a consultant to the Bahamas National Festival Commission since 2013.

“When we say success, I measure it by the number of persons attending and more importantly the involvement of the Bahamians,” he told The Tribune. “But overall it’s successful.”

Mr Moe was impressed with how the event, which started off as an idea two years ago, has materialised from the kick-off events in Grand Bahama last month to the non-stop three-day cultural extravaganza in New Providence.

With the right tweaking, he believes that the BJC will be much better in years to come. “We’re on our way and I predict, by 2018, I think you will have it very right,” Mr Moe said.

The Grand Life team from Grand Bahama, with over 250 members, added to the performances in New Providence over the weekend, led by Ginger Moxey, the Grand Bahama BJC event organiser. After such a successful kick-off in Grand Bahama, Mrs Moxey said she is looking forward to 2016. “Grand Bahama pulled it off in a big way and we are ready for next year,” she said.

Wearing the lead team costume depicting the colours of the Bahamian flag, Mrs Moxey led the Grand Life team during Road Fever through the streets of New Providence in aquamarine, orange and gold and pink costumes.
