PETRA Hanna-Weekes, a well-known Grand Bahama attorney, has been appointed Justice of the Supreme Court and has been assigned to Freeport.

Since 2010, she has been a partner with the law firm Graham Thompson in Freeport, working in Banking and Finance, Immigration and Naturalisation, and Property and Development Practice groups.

Mrs Weekes was admitted to the Bahamas Bar in 1986 and the Bermuda Bar in 1990. She has served in various public service capacities, as Stipendiary and Circuit Magistrate in Freeport from 1993 to 1998, was former chairman of the Shop and Liquor Licencing Committee and was a Bahamas Bar Council member from 2012 to 2013. She is a former president of the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA) Grand Bahama Chapter and currently serves as Regional Vice President for FIDA International.

“We will certainly miss her professional contributions at Graham Thompson, but we are so proud of this honour and know that she is thrilled to be joining the judiciary, where her passion for the law will allow her to best serve her country,” Erica Paine, a partner at Graham Thompson, said.
