The handwriting is on the wall for the Progressive Liberal Party is as clear as the message that was written for King Belshazzar of Babylon and was interpreted by the Prophet Daniel.

Every day this PLP government is being weighed in the balance and found sorely wanting. They are being blinded by their own deceit and arrogance but the day of reckoning is fast approaching.

King Belshazzar was celebrating the invincibility of his Babylonian empire. There was much wine, music, laughter and dancing in the streets; the banquet hall was lavishly decorated and the banter was loud. However, the handwriting on the wall brought it all to a screeching halt.

Today, The Bahamas is on a similar path and the latest instalment in this debauchery was concluded on the weekend of May 7-9 under the label of Bahamas Junkanoo Carnival. The scales are being drawn across the eyes of the national leaders and their perception of success will further mire this country and the majority of people that blindly follow them into the depths of hell.

Prime Minister Perry Christie says the turnout of the thousands of people at the carnival blast has vindicated him and it is now on to the planning for next year’s instalment to make it “bigger and better.”

The Prime Minister will now feel empowered to continue to ignore the missteps being made by ministers of the government, and other highly placed private officials.

With just 18 months to go before the 2017 general election campaign begins in earnest, the V Alfred Gray interference in a judicial matter will not be heard of as the Attorney General has decided that there will be no criminal prosecution. Damian Gomez will stay on in the Cabinet despite that files related to his former clients will probably continue to be missing.

Also, despite the government and the Member of Parliament for the Marathon Constituency withholding the report of the Rubis oil spill from the people of Marathon and the rest of the country, Minister Jerome Fitzgerald will get a free pass and will be allowed to continue his (mis)representation. There will be no consequences from Deputy Prime Minister Philip Davis’ misleading of the House of Assembly with regard to insurance for a Bahamas Agriculture and Marine Science Institute (BAMSI) contractor in Andros.

And the long list of failures will continue to get longer while Prime Minister Christie and the PLP try to lull the Bahamian people into accepting their few successes.
