HIT ‘N’ RUN wins 2nd leg of the Bahamas Billfish Championship

HIT ‘N’ RUN, a 68-foot F&S owned by Byron Russell, won the second leg of the 2015 Bahamas Billfish Championship (BBC) in Green Turtle Cay in the Abacos after a terrific second day when they released four white marlin, a sailfish and a blue marlin for a grand slam.

The runner-up was Joe Posillico’s 61-foot Viking, Torta, who also had an exciting second day releasing two white marlin, a blue marlin and a sailfish for their own grand slam.

Third place went to Wave Paver, a 61-foot Garlington owned by Jr Davis, who had finished second in the opening round at Guana Cay.

The billfish were biting and many boats caught several a day, including some huge mahi mahi.

The third of four legs of the championship will be on May 27 at Treasure Cay, where the current Bahamas blue marlin record was caught - 1,119lbs by the Double Dog during the 2011 BBC.

Typically, at this time of year, there will a drop off of white marlin as the blue marlin start to move in. The fourth and final leg is slated for Marsh Harbour from June 10-13.
