THERE has been a shift atop the leadership of The Bahamas Softball Federation as former president Burkett Dorsett has been replaced by incumbent first vice president Ted Miller after the elections were held on Saturday.

The election was held in the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture conference room, Thompson Boulevard.

Miller, who has been a part of the federation for 23 years, said he’s looking forward to representing the association through his presidency, after being a member of the federation for so long.

He is extremely optimistic about the direction the association is heading in and has many plans to assist in this upward turnaround.

Miller lists a host of incentives inclusive of the revival of family island associations, better-funded youth and national programmes and the development of the Austin Knowles tournament.

“The lack of finances made these things extremely difficult and we seek to change that during our tenure,” said Miller as they hope the tournament can reach the same plateau as the Hugh Campbell Basketball Tournament in regards to local support.

The federation also gave special thanks to past president Dorsett, who has been a part of the association for 26 years.

“I’ve made a valuable contribution to the organisation,” said Dorsett, who spoke to the fact that he oversaw multiple positive developments in the federation.

Inclusive of the membership growing from 400 to 1,700, the formation of a junior national team, and the inaugural Hall of Fame induction, as Leon “Apache” Knowles was enshrined into the Hall of Fame.

Dorsett also mentioned that he is optimistic about the federation’s future as Miller has been his “right hand man” for the past six years.

Aside from Miller’s election there was a host of other newly elected officials including 1st Vice President Jennifer Issacs-Dotson, who made BSF history becoming the first female vice president in the organisation’s history.

Michael Colebrooke was elected as 2nd vice president, Haziel McDonald as 3rd vice president, Paula Johnson as 4th vice president and Jamal Greene as 5th vice president. Daphne McKinney and Arthur Johnson filled the secretary general and assistant secretary general positions respectively, while Jeffery Henfield was elected as treasurer and Romell Knowles as assistant treasurer.
