Coroner to probe police shooting

THE death of a man killed during a shoot out with police on Saturday has been turned over to the coroner for investigation, police said yesterday.

Police have also released the identity of the dead man. He is 20-year-old Deangelo Bodie Wallace of Spence Street.

Wallace was killed after an early morning shoot out with police on the weekend. Two other men were arrested after the incident and a fourth man was being pursued. According to police reports, gunmen clashed with a team of officers in the Fort Fincastle and Mason’s Addition area around 3.30am.

The officers were responding to reports that gunshots were heard in the area, and upon arrival, were confronted by four men armed with firearms.

“Quick action by police has resulted in the arrest of two suspects who opened fired at them and the fatal shooting of another suspect who also opened fire on police,” the police report said.

Police recovered a Glock pistol from the deceased, and an AK-47 assault rifle that was dropped by the man who was arrested at the scene.

The two other men fled on foot, but one of them was caught by police.
