In The Bahamas, there is much concern with circumstances where many things seem to be out of order, need to be fixed, corruption and confusion. While there is progress in some areas, the leaders in their rush to correct things make poor choices and leave God out.

The country has in recent times experienced a measure of success in tourism, tax reform, farming, immigration reform, sports but it would be carnival I would question. As it is now going down that road, would be dangerous! If this is where our present leaders are taking us, I am ashamed. I concur with the Christian Council which gives warning on this subject. The very high atmosphere of perversity is foreign to us. I am surprised that the high level of crime, murder and mischievousness going on that they would even think of exploiting us further by bringing in these low forms of human activity.

What has taken place recently was of two-fold or mixed in both the Bahamian and foreign bands. There was a traditional one that everybody was “use to” seeing and hearing then there was a seductive highly sexual designed to cause excitement and gratification.

This type of entertainment is damaging, especially to young people. What is going on in our country is going on through design or what is allowed which can be very damaging. There was much allowed with little or no control. What was going on at different times during the carnival had descended to the lowest forms of human actions of what could be compared to animals, where it was done through speaking, music and dance. I found it to be revolting and disgusting.

There was continual gyrating of a debasing sexual nature in the midst of large crowds that if there was no security things would very easily get out of control. In the midst of all this, we wonder where the violence, mischievousness and high murder rate came from. We are then presented with our leaders from each side of the divide which gave their blessings saying that, this is something good, which cause me to believe that changing the Government will make no difference.

Many now call debasing acts good, where we live in a world where people call evil good and good out of date. It was interesting to note that people who we might have thought to have good “moral standing” when sexually aroused how quickly they follow the crowd agreeing that this was something good.

Implication of a degrading nature was exhibited in dance, music and speech designed to bring out the worst human behaviour where it was constantly said verbally “let me see your worst behaviour”. They then call this harmless. I thought leaders were trying to get best behaviour out of young people. These seeds were sown and God will surely judge. The traditional culture many are moving away from to something that is sexual and degrading which they call culture.
