SUDDEN DEATH

PLAYOFFS

THE Bahamas Association of Independent Secondary Schools is all set to begin its sudden death softball playoffs at Freedom Farm Park in Yamacraw this week. After seven weeks of action during the regular season, the four contestants in all four divisions - juniors boys and girls and boys and senior girls and boys - have been determined.

The playoffs are scheduled to begin today with the pennant winners taking on the fourth place teams at 4pm, starting with the juniors followed by the seniors. Then on Wednesday at the same time, the second and third place teams will clash. At the end of the two days of the sudden death playoffs, the two winners in each division will advance to the best-of-three championship series slated to begin on Monday (November 9) with game one. Game two is set for Wednesday, November 11 and if necessary, game three will be played on Thursday, November 12.

VOLLEYBALL

NPVA ACTION

THE New Providence Volleyball Association played a double header on Sunday at the DW Davis Gymnasium. In the ladies’ opener, the defending champions Scottsdale Vixens won over the College of the Bahamas Lady Caribs 25-9, 25-15 and 25-10. In the men’s feature contest, the National Fence Intruders won 25-16, 26-24, 23-25, 21-25 and 15-12 over the Technicians.

The league’s regular season play is scheduled to continue 7:30pm Wednesday.

SOFTBALL

NPOTSA ACTION

THE New Providence Oldtimers Softball Association is slated to return to action over the weekend of November 7-8.

BSC TRACK MEET

BECAUSE of the public holiday weekend, the Baptist Sports Council has announced that it will move its 2015 track and field competition from Saturday, October 10 to Saturday, November 14.

The event will be held at the Thomas A Robinson Track and Field Stadium.

At that time, the BSC will attempt to introduce its battle of the band, step and banner competitions between the various associations within the Baptist organisation.

SOFTBALL

CLASSIC

THE Baptist Sports Council has announced that its 2015 softball classic will begin at the Banker’s Field in the Baillou Hills Sporting Complex on Saturday, November 7.

The league will feature competition in the under 15, under-19, co-ed and men’s division.

The registration fee is $200 per team per division.

Interested teams are urged to contact either Brent Stubbs at stubbobs@gmail.com, Jonique Webb at joniquewebb@hotmail.com or Nicola Major at seek_ye_first@hormail.com by Friday, September 25 to confirm participation.

AWARDS

DINNER

THE Rising Star Youth Baseball & Softball Development League, with a wish to recognise the pioneers of both sporting disciplines on Grand Bahama, will show its respect for their efforts during a dinner at Le Chateau on the Green, Freeport, on Saturday, November 28.
