FORMER DNA candidate for the Marathon constituency Karen Davis has officially joined the Free National Movement, the party announced yesterday.

Mrs Davis, who lost her bid to represent the constituency in the 2012 general election, is now the second person to leave the DNA within the last two months.

In September, lawyer Wayne Munroe, QC, joined the Progressive Liberal Party. Mr Munroe ran as the DNA’s candidate for the Mount Moriah constituency in the last general election.

Yesterday, FNM Chairman Michael Pintard welcomed Mrs Davis’ decision.

“The FNM, under the leadership of (Dr Hubert Minnis), continues to attract Bahamians from all facets of life and all political persuasions to join with the FNM as we ready ourselves to build a better Bahamas,” he said.

In accepting her membership card, Mrs Davis stated her reasons for joining the FNM.

“As a mother of three beautiful children, I am concerned that the downward slope that the Christie-led administration is taking our country will continue if we don’t unite,” she said. “Additionally, under the PLP, my children and thousands of other Bahamian children will inherit a country void of employment opportunities and without hope.

“However, I believe the Free National Movement under the leadership of Dr Hubert Minnis will reverse this trend and put our country back on the path to prosperity.”

Mrs Davis is a graduate of the Government High School. She then obtained her emergency medical technology training from the University of Miami.

Following the 2012 general election, which the PLP won, DNA Leader Branville McCartney listed Mrs Davis as his party’s shadow minister of transport and aviation.

Attempts to reach Mr McCartney for comment on Mrs Davis joining the FNM yesterday were unsuccessful up to press time.

Mrs Davis the latest person to join the FNM, following former PLP MPs Renward Wells (Bamboo Town) and Dr Andre Rollins (Fort Charlotte), who joined the Official Opposition last week.

Dr Rollins quit the PLP in June and served as an independent MP until last Wednesday.

Karen, when you see Jerome Fitzgerald you make sure he thanks you for his 2012 seat, cause DNA & FNM together would have beat him, but separate........ its PLP forever...... Get used to it.

I welcome each and every prospective candidate heading into the 2017 General. Hopefully, a clear majority of registered voters will listen to all the messages, then make their minds up who best to vote for.
But for any Comrade Blogger to think that had only the DNA not contested the 2012, the FNM would have won out over the PLP - would be to still seriously underestimate the degree voters went to the polls, all hell bent on removing Papa Hubert's regime from office.
