THE Bahamas’ two representatives at the 51st QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup in Sam’s Town, Las Vegas, have had mixed results after the first eight games were bowled yesterday.

The Bahamas Amateur Bowling Federation selected Ken Brathwaite and Driskell Rolle to compete in the tournament where the bowlers have to bowl three sets of eight games through Tuesday. Once they have finished those rounds, the cut will then be for the top 24.

Brathwaite is sitting in 81st place out of a field of 86 competitors. With a high game of 190 and a total pinfall of 1,342, Brathwaite has an average of 167.75.

Muhammad Jaris Goh of Singapore, a 20-year-old student, took an early lead in the 51st QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup in Sam’s Town Las Vegas, with a score of 1,855 over his eight games (231.88 average).

Close behind on 1,846 is Francois Louw of South Africa on 1846. Francois came in 9th when the event was held in Toulon, France, in 2010, missing out on the top eight in a one game roll off.

Ildemaro Ruiz Jr of Venezuela is lying in third place on 1798. Ildemaro has also played in the World Cup before, bowling a 300 game in St Petersburg in 2007.

The high game so far this year is 289 with three players on that mark - Francois, Ildemaro and Kamron Doyle of the USA.

On the ladies’ side, Driskell Rolle’s performance is much better. She is 49th out of 71 competitors. She had a high set of 223 with 1,389 pinfalls for her average of 173.63.

Two-time champion Aumi Guerra of the Dominican Republic is in the lead by just one pin from defending champion Clara Guerrero of Colombia on 1,738 and 1,737 respectively. Geraldine Ng Su Yi of Singapore is in third on 1714.

The high game so far is 288 from Stephanie Martins of Brazil.

The two other returning champions, Shannon Pluhowsky of the USA and Kerrie Ryan-Ciach of Canada, are also in the top 24 at this stage.

Brathwaite and Rolle will be back in action today.
