BASKETBALL

BAISS SEASON

OPENER

THE Bahamas Association of Independent Secondary Schools began its 2015/16 basketball season at various playing sites yesterday.

However, the senior boys game at Queen’s College between the Comets and the Jordan Prince William Falcons was halted at the start of the fourth quarter. The Falcons had taken a slight 39-38 lead when referee Reggie Forbes called the game. After consulting with the two coaches, it was agreed that they will complete the fourth quarter at a later date.

A number of other games were on the schedule for the senior boys and junior girls, but no results were available up to press time last night.

Today, the BAISS is slated to be back in action at 4pm with the junior boys and senior girls at the various schools.

GSSSA BASKETBALL

THE Government Secondary Schools Sports Association kicked off its 2015/16 basketball season on Monday at the AF Adderley and DW Davis Gymnasiums. However, no scores were available at press time. Today, the league is scheduled to be back in action with the junior girls and boys playing at AF Adderley, DW Davis and CI Gibson Gyms, starting at 4 pm. The senior girls and boys will play again on Wednesday.

BASKETBALL

NPBA ACTION

THE New Providence Basketball Association is all set to play a double header at DW Davis Gym tonight. In the opener at 8pm, Double R Cleaners play Another Level Basketball Club followed by the feature contest between Athletico Club Bahamas and Real Deal Shockers at 9:30pm.

SOFTBALL

BSC ACTION

THE Baptist Sports Council is scheduled to open its 2015 softball classic tonight in the Banker’s Field at the Baillou Hills Sporting Complex. In the co-ed opener at 7pm, Golden Gates take on St Paul’s followed by the men’s feature contest between the same two teams at 8pm. On Thursday night, the action will continue with Macedonia facing New Birth Ministries in the co-ed game at 7pm and the men’s encounter at 8pm. The action will then pick up at 1pm Saturday.

KIDS’ ATHLETICS

RACE

THE Kids’ Athletics Academy is all set to host its 3rd annual one-mile road race 10am Saturday at the Hot Rod Race Track and Motorsports Park at the Queen Elizabeth Sports Complex.

Categories

Under-6 - 400m, Under-8 - 800m, Under-10 - 1200, Under-14 - 1 mile, Under-16 - 1 mile, Under-18 - 1 mile and Open - 1 mile.

Trophies for 1st, 2nd, 3rd place winners and medals from 4th to 10th place finishers.

Registration is being held at the BAAA office with Ann Thompson or coach Sherry Murray-Francis at Temple Christian Primary School, Collins Ave, or at race track on race day.

This race is the first off-season event on the BAAA calendar and will be utilised as a fitness testing for our athletes. All track clubs, basketball teams and persons training for half marathons are encouraged to participate.

SOFTBALL

BSC CLASSIC

THE Baptist Sports Council is scheduled to begin its 2015 Softball Classic in the Banker’s Field at the Baillou Hills Sporting Complex today.

In the 7pm opener, St Paul’s is slated to play the defending champions Golden Gates in the co-ed division.

The same two teams will meet in the men’s feature contest at 8pm. Then on Thursday, Macedonia will play New Birth Ministries in a double header, starting at 7pm.

The action will continue on Saturday with all of the other teams competing, starting with a showdown between Jordan Prince Williams Falcons and Charles W Saunders Cougars senior boys teams at 1pm.

JBLN

BASEBALL

THE Junior Baseball League of Nassau opened its 2016 pre-season this past week with a full slate of games played in all seven divisions at the St Andrew’s Field of Dreams.

The JBLN pre-season is scheduled to train players and teams for the upcoming season which will open on January 16, 2016.
