RUGBY

BRU ACTION

THE Bahamas Rugby Union is scheduled to continue its regular season at the Winton Rugby Centre on Saturday when Baillou takes on the Cuckoos in the lone game at 3pm.

Women’s Sports Day

As part of their fundraising efforts, the women’s rugby team is all set to host an “all-female” sports day in Winton 2pm Sunday, November 29. There will be three games - a soccer, flag football and rugby match.

Cuckoos’ CD Sale

Cuckoos Rugby Club will be having a CD sale at Winton on Saturday.

From the club president

“They range from Rap/Hip Hop/80’s – 90’s Rock/Reggae/Dance Compilations/Classical. You name it it is there – mostly reggae and hip hop. We will be selling each CD for $6.00 or 2 for $10.00 so bring your money if interested and tell your friends.”

Buck Johnson 10s

Clubs are reminded that the Buck Johnson 10s will be held at Winton next Saturday. (November 28).

Jonah Lomu

Most of you will have heard the sad news of the death of Jonah Lomu this week. Should anyone need reminding of his prodigious talent, the following documentary is worth watching: Jonah Lomu.

BOWLING

THE top scorer in Financial Bowling League competition last night was Ural Pratt Jr of Moonlight Strikers who struck for his first 600 set ever. Pratt downed the pins for a second high game of 236 and a big 619 high three game set. 

Runner-up MVP was Bud Cambridge of Forsythe Communications with a 239 high game and a 586 second high set. 

The ladies’ MVP of the evening was again Joy Lockhart of BTC Night Hawks who toppled the pins for a strong 230 high game and a 538 high three game set. She was followed by Angie Smith of Moonlight Strikers with a 502 second high set.

Tara Culmer of Forsythe Communications toppled the pins for a second high game of 175.

KPMG FOOTBALL

FEST

THE Lyford Cay International School (LCIS) is scheduled to host its annual KPMG Football Fest 9:15am to 4:30pm today. This will be the fourth year the tournament has been held.

The KPMG Football Fest brings together nearly 100 student athletes from four different Caribbean countries, including The Bahamas, British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands and Jamaica, for two days of competitive sport, fun and cultural exchange.

An opening ceremony is all set for 9:15am to 10am which will feature a team parade (displaying national flags), the Bahamian national anthem and a Junkanoo rush-out and a 13-and-under football tournament with matches featuring players who represent five schools from around the Caribbean (10am to 4:30pm).

KIDS’ ATHLETICS

RACE

THE Kids’ Athletics Academy is all set to host its 3rd annual one-mile road race 10am Saturday at the Hot Rod Race Track and Motorsports Park at the Queen Elizabeth Sports Complex.

Categories

Under-6 - 400m, Under-8 - 800m, Under-10 - 1200, Under-14 - 1 mile, Under-16 - 1 mile, Under-18 - 1 mile and Open - 1 mile.

Trophies for 1st, 2nd, 3rd place winners and medals from 4th to 10th place finishers.

Registration is being held at the BAAA office with Ann Thompson or coach Sherry Murray-Francis at Temple Christian Primary School, Collins Ave, or at race track on race day.

This race is the first off-season event on the BAAA calendar and will be utilised as a fitness testing for our athletes. All track clubs, basketball teams and persons training for half marathons are encouraged to participate.

BASEBALL

THE Junior Baseball League of Nassau opened its 2016 pre-season this past week with a full slate of games played in all seven divisions at the St Andrew’s Field of Dreams.

The JBLN pre-season is scheduled to train players and teams for the upcoming season which will open on January 16, 2016.
