Govt must oppose same sex marriage

EDITOR, The Tribune.

With all this talk about the faults of NEMA, the tragedy in damages to islands of the southeastern Bahamas by hurricane Joaquin and scepticism about the National Health Insurance plan (NHI) that should be in effect in 2016; as well as, the never ending terror of increasing crimes, the moment is here for us to take time out to face and deal with another threatening matter of same sex marriages.

The Government of The Bahamas should take serious stand on the matter, and, give some kind of public release or statement, especially with the 2017 elections very near. This writer feels that the gender equality bill and referendum should have never been deferred to another year, and it is hoped that the Right Honourable MP for Long Island’s recent behaviour in the House of Parliament had anything to do with the postponement of that referendum, because it really would have been a very sad day in Bahamian history and for democracy.

However, back to our subject: same sex marriage, it is really an abomination, and should be seen as such, amongst all modern civilisations with no preferences given to Christianity, religious beliefs of faith. It is wrong with both God and man.

Personally, I was very embarrassed when authorities of the United States allowed, then enacted such a law into their constitution. The only thing can be said is, Mr Obama, what have you done?!

In allowing such an outrageous act, however in lieu of all this, Kim Davis, head court clerk at Rowan Kentucky has become my hero, and hopefully may have saved the day, and, that great country of the United States of America. She stood her grounds, although imprisoned for a short time, her actions could eventually and, hopefully open the door to that law of same sex marriage being repealed and permanently set aside.

Now back to the Bahamas populace, and here at home one can only wish and hope, as well as, pray that such a law never happens or even given for consideration amongst our beautiful isles.

Now, although a heterosexual, and of the belief that all persons are entitled to their human rights/civil rights, etc. Therefore, I wouldn’t persecute gays neither mistreat them, however, for such a law as same sex marriage to be enacted in any country, to me is appalling! For it can only start the process of degradation, and the erosion of all decency; as well as, any dignity or esteem held towards that country, and all mankind; so I would say to the Bahamas Government again, it is time to let your voice be heard on this matter.

"It can only start the process of degradation, and the erosion of all decency"........??? Brother Rahming where you been living? Nassau surpassed Sodom & Gomorrah for depravity long time ago and what on earth does gender equality have to do with same sex marriages? Many of us heterosexuals would welcome with open arms women having the same rights as men in this country, the continued withholding of those rights being the real abomination.

Rather tired of listening to the same old drivel from christianists who act like they and they alone should be able to dictate which citizens are deserving of equal rights based on what they perceive their sky god has to say about it in the bible. I would like to remind you that Jesus Christ during His 33 year life on this planet never said a word about homosexuality. If it was such an important subject than why is that the case? Human rights are gay rights. Gay rights are human rights! Kim Davis is a public employee who is obligated to do her job as a public employee. She does NOT make the rules, the respective state legislature makes the rules. If she can not do her job serving ALL citizens than she should resign or be fired! Religious belief does not give you the right to be a bigot. The U.S. A. is but one country that gives equal marriage rights to its gay citizens. Canada, Mexico, Cuba, Spain the UK, Norway, Sweden and Denmark are a few of the others. No man is free unless all men are free. We can only hope that one day the Bahamas will extend human rights to all of its citizens. Just because it is your culture to discriminate against certain people does not make it right. Equality to all citizens!
