BASKETBALL

NPWBA ACTION

THE New Providence Women’s Basketball Association kicked off its 2015 season at the DW Davis Gymnasium on Saturday. In the opening game at 7pm, the Bommer G Operators face the Career Builders Lady Cheetahs. Following a “soft opening,” last year’s runners-up Super Value Cybots Queens take on defending champions Johnson’s Lady Truckers in the feature contest.

VOLLEYBALL

NPVA ACTION

THE New Providence Volleyball Association continued its regular season with a ladies’ double header at the DW Davis Gymnasium on Wednesday night. In the opener, the Lady Caribs came out ready and took the first two sets from the Lady Panthers. However, the Lady Panthers clawed their way back to win the match in five sets - 25-19, 15-17, 15-25, 10-25 and 13-15. In the feature contest, the Lady Truckers defeated the Lady Techs in three sets - 25-8, 25-23 and 25-16. NPVA action is scheduled to continue 7:30pm tonight with two games - Vixens v Lady Panthers (ladies) at 7:30pm followed by Technicians v Intruders (men).

BOWLING

FINANCIAL LEAGUE

THE top scorer in the Financial Bowling League last night was Perry Williams of Moonlight Strikers with an impressive 226 high game along with a 608 high three game set. The runner-up MVP was Sonith Lockhart of Rubis Oil Stars with a 222 second high game and a 598 second high set. The ladies’ MVP of the evening was Angie Smith of Moonlight Strikers who toppled the pins for a 178 second high game and a 490 high three game set. Smith was followed by Patrina Cartwright of Rubis Oil Stars with a 183 high game and a respectable 482 second high set. In other team scores, the Moonlight Strikers def. Best Deal Kirki Bar 3-0, Rubis Oil Stars def. Sunshine Insurance 3-0, Deloitte & Touche def. Leno Corporate Services 3-0, BTC Night Hawks def. Strike Force 2-1 and Forsythe Communications def. Leno Corporate Services 2-1.

FOOTBALL

CAFL ACTION

THE Commonwealth American Football League, which opened its regular season on Saturday with the Jets pulling off a 2-0 win over the Stingrays, is all set to be back in action this weekend in Grand Bahama and in New Providence.

In Grand Bahama, the Jets take on the Crushers on Saturday at Eight Mile Rock and the Pros meet the Falcons in Freeport. On Sunday at DW Davis, the Stingrays face the Warriors at 1pm.

THE Baptist Sports Council is slated to continue its regular season with the following games in the Banker’s Field at the Baillou Hills Sporting Complex on Saturday:

SWIMMING

ORCA MEET

THE Bahamas Swimming Federation is scheduled to continue its regular season this weekend with the Orca Fall Invitational Swim Meet, organised by coach Shawn Neely. The meet is all set to begin at 6pm tonight and wrap up on Saturday following the 9am session at Betty Kelly Kenning National Swim Complex.

BOXING

YEAR-END SHOW

CHAMPION Amateur Boxing Club is scheduled to hold its final round for 2015, the ‘Fight to the Finish’ with the 21st annual Ray Minus Sr End of Year Amateur Boxing Tournament.

It’s an evening of explosive and exciting competition hosted by Champion Amateur Boxing Club. It’s scheduled for 7pm Saturday, December 19 at the Wulff Road Boxing Square.

The main attraction will be a welterweight title championship match betweenTrae Davis (Freeport) vs Lennox Boyce (Nassau). There will also be a rematch betwee nDaedae Eugene (Nassau) and Glovels Escament (Abaco).

The show will showcase Champion Amateur Boxing Club, Freeport Boxing Team, Abaco Boxing Team, Major Pain Boxing Club, Strikers Boxing Club and the Lion Heart Boxing Club.

Awards will be presented to most improved boxer; most outstanding boxer, best fight of the tournament, boxer of the year award and the Ray Minus Sr Trophy. All amateur boxers and boxing clubs are welcome to participate.
