Moss plans for new party

EDITOR, The Tribune

I wish to commend and congratulate the Member of Parliament for Marco City, Gregory Moss on his announcement of the formation of a new political party.

After having been initially underwhelmed by and unimpressed with Mr Moss during the 2012 General Election campaign (despite the fact that I am a longtime supporter of the Free National Movement), I have become a big Gregory Moss fan.

Of all the Parliamentary contributions during this governmental term (and I concede that I’ve missed many) I have been far more impressed with those made by Gregory Moss than any other. Mr Moss’ contributions have been thoughtful, insightful, penetrating and at times, riveting.

While the established political parties (seemingly content with and intent on retaining their position as political overlords) wrangle over who can best manage and maintain the status quo, Greg Moss has been advocating an end to the status quo - a change in our political culture. He hasn’t used the word but what he’s been calling for is essentially a mini revolution.

Personally, I find this very appealing since many of the problems we face in this country are as systemic as they are political. Let me also commend Democratic National Alliance leader Branville McCartney for the class, grace and maturity with which he responded to the announcement by Mr Moss.

I feel that FNM Chairman Michael Pintard could and should have responded far more charitably. PLP Chairman Bradley Roberts, on the other hand was … well … Bradley Roberts – crass, crude and classless.

Once again, congratulations Greg Moss and I am sure many more Bahamians nationwide look forward to the final formation of this new political entity.
