Sniping about Minnis

EDITOR, The Tribune.

I could only shake my head in wonder at today’s headline – “FNM divided over Minnis.”

This article was based on comments from Darron Cash, the former chairman who was trounced in the deputy leadership race not even a year ago and Michael Scott. Michael WHO?

The media continues to ignore the fact that Dr Minnis was returned as leader by an overwhelming majority less than a year ago in spite of all of the PLP-orchestrated hype and media bashing at the time.

The media needs to stop falling prey to the Minnis bashing groundwork carefully laid by the PLP and a few disgruntled want-to-be politicos and to be fair and impartial in its reporting.

I did not personally attend last night’s FNM/Minnis town meeting, but judging from radio call-ins, the meeting was very well attended and Minnis had a lot of support.

Will the story be carried in The Tribune, or are the reporters content to sit at their desks and rely on press hand-outs by political rejects and wannabes?

The FNM has always been its own worst enemy and its history is littered with in-fighting fuelled by personal power trips that cost it too many elections and delivered the country to the retarded and destructive PLP.

Minnis has served with distinction both as a Cabinet Minister and as an MP. He is extremely popular in his own constituency where he has taken the lead with initiatives such as a jobs skill register and community safety, having spent his constituency allowance on CCTVs years ago - something the Fox Hill MP is only now just talking about for his crime-infested area.

Compare what Minnis has achieved in his lifetime, both from a professional and political perspective, with the achievements of Cash and Scott.

Surely, if the media is interested in truth, it will investigate the contributions of all these gentlemen and their backgrounds, along with every MP, to see who brings what to the table.

The truth may surprise you.
