CONGRATS

THE Bahamas Lawn Tennis Association congratulates Jacobi Bain and Elana Mackey, who have been invited by the International Tennis Federation to participate in a Regional Under-13 Training Camp for the top players in the region. The training camp began yesterday and will end Sunday in La Libertad, El Salvador.

Both players were selected with the criteria of being in the top eight from that age bracket in the COTECC ranking.

“We wish both Jacobi and Elana the best as they travel to La Libertad, El Salvador, to acquire more knowledge on how to improve their game,” the BLTA said in a press release.

The duo will be accompanied by coach Bradley Bain.

BOWLING

DOUBLES TOURNEY

THE Doubles Bowling Tournament, under the auspices of the Bahamas Bowling Federation, is all set to be held on October 17 at Mario’s Bowling and Family Entertainment Palace. Interested persons are asked to contact Clayton Gardiner, BBF treasurer, tournament director and public relations officer, for more details.

NPOTSA RESULTS

THE New Providence Oldtimers Softball Association continued its regular season in the Archdeacon William Thompson Softball Park at the Southern Recreation Grounds over the weekend. The following results were posted:

Dozer Pros 20,

BTC Vibes 5

Greg Smith went 3-for-3 with a home run and seven runs batted in and Brad Smith was 4-for-4 with two RBI and four runs scored. Roberto Goodman got the win on the mound and Steve Hepburn suffered the loss.

DKS Crusaders 16,

Doc’s Stallions 6

Stephen Brown went 3-for-4 with two RBI and scored three times and Don Dean got the win on the mound. Juan Pratt got the loss.

Platinum Sharks 11,

Joshua Knights 10

Dennis Davis went 3-for-4 with three RBI and scored two runs, while Foster Dorsett got the win on the mound. Kermit Mackey was tagged with the loss.

Hardy XO 14, Corner Boys 6

Ken Adderley was a perfect 3-for-3 with a home run, two RBI and three runs scored in the win. Ivan Hanna was the winning pitcher and Gilbert Simmons suffered the loss.

Global Rebels 12, QHC Divers 4

Sherman Ferguson went 4-for-4 with a RBI and three runs scored and Raymond Rolle was 3-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored in the win. Val Munroe was the winning pitcher and Lester Stuart got the loss.

Angelo Dillett went 3-for-5 with a home run, five RBI and three runs scored, Lorenzo Carter was 2-for-4 with four RBI and two runs scored and Rory Newbold was 4-for-5 with two runs scored in the win. Greg Gardiner was the winning pitcher and Kermit Mackey suffered the loss.

NO ACTION YET

THE Government Secondary Schools Sports Association has yet to announce when they will commence their 2015/16 season.

By now, the association should have already started its volleyball league, but a dispute in the administration of the league has forced a delay in the start of the games. So far, no word has been released on when the league will get started.

SOFTBALL

BSC CLASSIC

THE Baptist Sports Council has announced that its 2015 softball classic will begin at the Banker’s Field in the Baillou Hills Sporting Complex on Saturday, November 7.

The league will feature competition in the under 15, under-19, co-ed and men’s division. The registration fee is $200 per team per division.

Interested teams are urged to contact either Brent Stubbs at stubbobs@gmail.com, Jonique Webb at joniquewebb@hotmail.com or Nicola Major at seek_ye_first@hormail.com by Friday, September 25 to confirm participation.

BSC CLASSIC

THE Baptist Sports Council has announced that its 2015 volleyball classic will be held at the DW Davis Gymnasium on Saturday, October 31.

The league will comprise of the ladies and men’s divisions or a co-ed will replace the ladies if there isn’t sufficient teams. The registration fee is $200 per team. Interested teams are urged to contact either Brent Stubbs at stubbobs@gmail.com, Jonique Webb at joniquewebb@hotmail.com or Nicola Major at seek_ye_first@hormail.com by Friday, September 25 to confirm their participation.

VOLLEYBALL

NPVA ACTION

THE New Providence Volleyball Association continued its regular season at the DW Davis Gym on Sunday.

In the ladies’ opener, the Johnson’s Lady Truckers came from behind to defeat the College of the Bahamas Lady Caribs 20-25, 26-24, 25-19 and 25-16.

In the men’s match, the National Fence Intruders also pulled off a four-set victory over the Scotiabank Defenders in set scores of 25-21, 28-26, 22-22 and 26-24.

• The league, which is headed by Jennifer Dotson-Isaacs, is scheduled to continue this week at DW Davis with the following games:

BSC TRACK MEET

BECAUSE of the public holiday weekend, the Baptist Sports Council has announced that it will move its 2015 track and field competition from Saturday, October 10 to Saturday, November 14 at the Thomas A Robinson Track and Field Stadium. At that time, the BSC will attempt to introduce its battle of the band, step and banner competitions between the various associations within the Baptist organisation.
