NEMA CALLS FOR DONATIONS

THE government’s National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has partnered with Arawak Port Development Ltd (APD) to assist individuals seeking to donate relief supplies to the areas impacted by Hurricane Joaquin.

Individuals wishing to donate relief items should bring them to the Nassau Container Port at Arawak Cay from Monday to Friday between 8am to 4pm for storage pending shipment.

Requested are non-perishable food items and construction materials, which would be consolidated into a 40ft container and shipped to the affected areas free of charge. Items should be packaged and properly labelled to identify the contents. Clothing, insect repellant and small appliances would also be accepted for shipping. The supplies would be distributed where needed and are not to be personalised.

Members of the Royal Bahamas Defence Force are also involved by providing security during the accepting and storage phases.

Individuals can contact NEMA at (242)-322-6081/5 and Arawak Port Development Ltd/Nassau Container Port at (242)-424-5255 for further information.

Meanwhile, monetary donations can be deposited to the ‘National Disaster Relief Fund’ at the Royal Bank of Canada, account #1281013 Ref: Hurricane Joaquin.

Funny now NEMA has to ask for everyone else's supplies, help, funds. Makes you wonder why they exist? Might be smarter if they went around asking the first responders "What can we do for you? How can we help you?........ If they have a Budget, but it is spent on salaries for dead weights, can it truly fulfill its mandate? Obviously the budget could not have ben spent of equipment, supplies, They have none.
