RBDF: Vessels in capital recently back from patrol

THE Royal Bahamas Defence Force confirmed yesterday that vessels seen docked in the capital have recently returned from lengthy patrols.

The organisation was responding to concerns about why three vessels could be seen docked in Nassau in the midst of hurricane relief efforts.

Able Seaman Drissen Brennen said: “We have three vessels deployed to Acklins, Long Island and Crooked Island. They are assisting with minor repairs, damage assessments, delivery of supplies and the security of supplies. Our vessels have also assisted with the delivery of generators and fuel.

“Several vessels have recently returned from patrols lasting up to 40 days. They have to rest – we can’t have all out at the same time.

“The RBDF has a senior officer aboard the Royal Fleet Auxiliary vessel in Crooked Island who is assisting with the co-ordination of relief efforts.”
