In defence of Galanis

EDITOR, The Tribune.

I think any reasonably bright person would concur with Mr Galanis’ observation that The Bahamas is in worse shape now than when Perry Christie came into power three years ago.

“Economy in the doldrums and crime rampant/unemployment escalating.”

Mr Galanis has just pointed out the facts. Facts are irrefutable two plus two always equals four.

Bradley Roberts’ role is to defend the leadership of the PLP at all costs, he is in effect Christie’s pit bull, his role to bite away at any dissenters or in Galanis’ case realists.

I suspect intellectually Mr Roberts is possibly not the sharpest pencil in the box.

His job is to be scary and loud which in fairness he is.

Mr Christie is 72. Why do companies retire their personnel at 65? Is it an act of kindness? No it’s not. It is done because as we age our faculties diminish. Both physically and mentally we start a process of decay. We eventually become a danger to ourselves. We cannot perform with the same vigour and vitality as our younger peers.

If you look at politics in first world countries the leaders are young men. Obama is 54. David Cameron, the PM of the UK, is 48. Both these leaders are in their second term and in the ”prime of life”. They were both in their mid / low 40s when they got the ”big jobs” They have vitality, fresh ideas and lots of energy.

Healthy politics is a reflection of society. Top people at large organisations are noticeably younger now than in previous times.

Mr Christie is old, he has ran out of ideas, his energy, vigour and intellect are deteriorating as aging dictates it must. He can barely make decisions and never makes the tough ones.

That is why Mr Galanis is perfectly correct in his observations. He is stating obvious facts.

Mr Christie, it’s time to go, it’s that simple. You had a good run, like an aging actor leave the stage gracefully for all our sakes.
