A MAN awaiting trial on a murder charge appeared in Supreme Court yesterday for a case management hearing.

Michael Mackey, 23, and his lawyer Ian Cargill appeared before Justice Vera Watkins for an update in his case concerning the December 29, 2014, fatal shooting of Randy McNeil, which is scheduled to be heard in June 2017.

Mackey returns before Justice Vera Watkins on Thursday, October 29, for the continuation of the case management proceedings.

McNeil, 29, was reportedly at a local bar at Matthew Street when he got into an argument with another man. McNeil left the bar and was on his way home when several gunshots were fired at him, hitting him in the chest.

He was pronounced dead at the scene by EMS personnel.

Mackey was arraigned in Magistrate’s Court 10 days later. In March, the matter was forwarded to the Supreme Court.

When formally arraigned in May, Mackey pleaded not guilty to the allegation.

He made an application for bail in September before Justice Watkins, but it was denied.

Vincent Percentie appeared for the Crown in yesterday’s status hearing.
