The Diocese of Guyana elects a new bishop

THE Diocese of Guyana was successful in electing its new bishop last month.

Father Charles Davidson was elected on the first ballot, and the diocese congratulated both him and his wife Maureen.

Davidson is a native of Guyana. He was ordained as a priest in 1978 and worked in the Diocese of the Bahamas and the Turks and Caicos Islands for 13 years (1983-96), serving in Hospital Chaplaincy at All Saints in Nassau, St Paul’s Parish in South Long Island, St Stephen’s Parish in Central Andros, St George’s Parish in Nassau, and St Thomas Parish in Grand Turk. He is presently the rector of Calvary St Augustine Episcopal Church in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

“We rejoice as another ‘son’ of our diocese makes himself available for service in the Body of Christ. We wish him and Mrs Davidson well as they prepare for this new ministry,” the diocese said in a statement.
