A dream worth chasing?

EDITOR, The Tribune.

I see again the promoters of the “unsuccessful revival” of Nassau Speedweeks are continuing their idea to build a Racing Circuit. Caution Ministry of Tourism, caution.

Many enjoy motor racing but the concept is costly and unless you are successful in obtaining a strong well established US-based circuit franchise the possibility of financial feasibility is very doubtful.

Let’s not forget right next door south of Miami is a world-class racing facility – Homestead Motor racing who have everything from Grand Prix through NASCAR - Vintage - Sports Car - a strong year round schedule.

There is only one event in the schedule Of Tourism Events that makes money – the Atlantis created brilliant Collegiate Basketball Pre-season tournament – research shows that for this event Atlantis does no “discount room rates” which is prevalent and present in all other events Tourism organises, including the infamous Carnival Junkanoo - IAAF Relays - Marathon.

Discounting room rates should be a touchy issue for the hotel employee as their remunerations are based on the room rate and the spending of the guess - if you reduce the room rates by 50%-60% you are reducing the take home pay of the employee whose bills have not reduced and she still has to meet them - I find it incredible the Hotel Union has been asleep on this?

Okay having a Motor Racing Circuit sounds good, but let’s not waste time and money on a dream which since its revival ended up DOA/dead on arrival with all the energies expended.
