The Water and Sewerage Corporation (WSC) is hoping to increase its revenue base by 20 per cent through its customer win-back campaign, its general manager said yesterday.

Speaking at a Bahamas Chamber of Commerce and Employers Confederation (BCCEC) luncheon, Glen Laville said: “Within this campaign we hope to get anywhere from 2,000-4,000 people per per year to sign back on, and if we are able to do that over a three-year period then we would be able to increase our revenue base by about 20 per cent.”

Mr Laville said the Corporation is seeking to outsource a number of services to the private sector, such as engineering, construction, collections and meter reading.

He added that it was looking to introduce automated meter reading during the 2016 first half.

“We are just getting the final proposals in, and it probably will take them about six to eight months to implement. The change out of the meters is very expensive. The network will probably run in the range of about $700,000, but the change out of the meters could be as high as $10 million,” said Mr Laville.

“What we plan to do, instead of changing out all the existing meters, whenever we have problems with the meters we will just slowly change them. So it won’t just be one big change out, but we will put the network in place and then we will eventually change the meters.”
