BAHAMAS RUGBY

SEASON OPENER

THE Bahamas Rugby Union is scheduled to kick off its 2015 Nassau Cup regular season with Buccaneers versus Baillou 4pm Saturday at the Winton Rugby Centre. This game has been nicknamed ‘The Albury Cup’ by some as the Albury brothers (Sean and Connor) are captains of the two teams.

When you come out on Saturdays, please bring an extra couple of dollars to buy a t-shirt, burger or jello shot. This will help support our women’s team who are desperately trying to raise money for their upcoming tour to Trinidad & Tobago.

NPOTSA ACTION

THE New Providence Oldtimers Softball Association has announced that there will be no games played at the Archdeacon William Thompson Softball Park at the Southern Recreation Grounds this weekend due to the fact that there are no officials available. All officials are scheduled to be occupied with the Bahamas Softball Federation’s National Round Robin Tournament that is being played in the Banker’s Field at the Baillou Hills Sporting Complex. The NPOTSA is slated to return to action over the weekend of November 7-8.

VOLLEYBALL

NPVA ACTION

THE New Providence Volleyball Association continued its regular season on Wednesday at the DW Davis Gymnasium. The National Fence Intruders defeated the Scotiabank Defenders in five sets (20-25, 25-23, 24-26, 25-22 and 15-12). The league is slated to be back in action tonight with a ladies’ game.

BOXING

CHAMPION

HALLOWEEN NIGHT

CHAMPION Amateur Boxing Club is scheduled to host its Halloween Fight Night amateur boxing show 7pm Saturday at the Wulff Road Boxing Square with the featured match between Daedae Eugene of Nassau and Glovels Escament of Abaco.

Boxers from the Abaco Boxing Team, the Major Pain Boxing Club, the Strikers Boxing Club and the Southside Marlins Boxing Club are expected to be in action.

Awards will be presented to the most improved boxer, most outstanding boxer, best fight and the overall winning club. All amateur boxers and boxing clubs are welcome to participate.

VOLLEYBALL

BSC CLASSIC

THE Baptist Sports Council has announced that its 2015 volleyball classic will be held at the DW Davis Gymnasium on Saturday, October 31.

The league will comprise of the ladies and men’s divisions or a co-ed will replace the ladies if there isn’t sufficient teams.

The registration fee is $200 per team. Interested teams are urged to contact either Brent Stubbs at stubbobs@gmail.com, Jonique Webb at joniquewebb@hotmail.com or Nicola Major at seek_ye_first@hormail.com by Friday, September 25 to confirm their participation.

BSC TRACK MEET

BECAUSE of the public holiday weekend, the Baptist Sports Council has announced that it will move its 2015 track and field competition from Saturday, October 10 to Saturday, November 14.

The event will be held at the Thomas A Robinson Track and Field Stadium.

At that time, the BSC will attempt to introduce its battle of the band, step and banner competitions between the various associations within the Baptist organisation.

MUSGROVE

TOUR DE NEW

PROVIDENCE

THE Bahamas Amateur Cycling Federation is scheduled to hold its annual Bertram ‘Cowboy’ Musgrove Tour De New Providence Cycling Classic over the weekend of October 30 to November 1. The event is designed for competitors in the level 1 for male, level II, level III and level IV for men and women.

On Saturday, October 30, all levels of the individual time trials over three miles is slated to begin 7am at the Frank Watson Highway. Then at 8:15am, the circuit road race, covering 24 miles, will follow.

On Sunday, November 1, the level I and II 50 miles road race will start and finish at Goodman’s Bay, starting at 6:40am. The levels III and IV, covering 30 miles, will follow at 7:40am.

There will be prizes for the oldest cyclists, youngest cyclists and the most aggressive cyclists.

THE Baptist Sports Council has announced that its 2015 softball classic will begin at the Banker’s Field in the Baillou Hills Sporting Complex on Saturday, November 7.

The league will feature competition in the under 15, under-19, co-ed and men’s division. The registration fee is $200 per team per division.

DINNER

THE Rising Star Youth Baseball & Softball Development League, with a wish to recognise the pioneers of both sporting disciplines on Grand Bahama, will show its respect for their efforts during a dinner at Le Chateau on the Green, Freeport, on Saturday, November 28.
