WORLD CUP

TO celebrate the opening of the 2015 Rugby World Cup, Bahamas Rugby, in conjunction with Heineken, will be hosting a couple of events at the Winton Rugby Pitch on the weekend of September 19.

Women’s Rugby

The women’s 7s squad are training at Winton at 7pm every Tuesday and Thursday evening.

“We’re recruiting active and energetic women between the ages of 17 and 30 who are not afraid of contact,” the BRU stated. “Please inform any women who you feel may be interested. We are currently in training for a tournament in Trinidad and Tobago in December, though our long term goal is to qualify for the Commonwealth Games in June 2016.”

BOWLING LEAGUE

THE top scorers from the Financial Bowling League 2015-2016 opening season last night was Marcharia McDonald of Strike Force with a 575 high three game set. Runner-up MVP was Stan Bethell also of Strike Force with the high game of 204 and a 512 second high set.

Philip Davis of Moonlight Strikers dropped the pins for a 201 second high game.

The ladies’ MVP was Joy Lockhart of BTC Night Hawks with a 161 second high game and a 425 high set. She was followed by Micah Hepburn of Rubis Oil Stars with a respectable a 400 second high set. Uchenna Delva of Deloitte and Touche toppled the pins for an outstanding 204 ladies high game.

Team scores for the evening were as follows:

Strike Force 2, Deloitte & Touche 1; Rubis Oil Stars 2, BTC Night Hawks 1; Moonlight Strikers 2, Forsythe Communications 1; Best Deal Kirri Bar 2, Leno Corporate Services 1.

WALK:

STRIDE 4 LIFE

THE Walk 4 Cancer Stride 4 Life 2015 is scheduled for 6am October 3, starting from the Cancer Society Building on East Terrace, Centreville. The theme for the event is “Walk A Mile In My Shoe.”

Registration is being held at the Cancer Society of the Bahamas on East Avenue, two doors south of ZNS. Adults will be charged $20 and children under 12 $10, which includes a t-shirt, backpack and other goodies. Monetary donations are accepted. Breakfast will be on sale.

SAILING:

BACK TO SCHOOL

REGATTA

THE Back-To-School Regatta, organised by Eleazor ‘the Sailing Barber’ Johnson, is all set to be held this weekend in Montagu Bay. The two-day event, which was posted two weeks ago because of the threat of Hurricane Erika, will be held on Saturday, starting at noon and wrap up 2pm Sunday.

Competition in the C Class will be held in the sloop boats. Two races will be held on Saturday. However, the Optimist junior sailing competition will preceed the action starting at 10am. Then on Sunday, the final race in the C class competition will take place.

The regatta is being held in honour of Sir Durward ‘Sea Wolf’ Knowles. School supplies will be presented to students and cash and trophies will be presented to the winners of the sailing competition.

SOFTBALL:

BANKER’S LEAGUE

THE Banker’s League best-of-five softball championship series is slated to begin on Saturday in the Banker’s Field at the Baillou Hills Sporting Complex with the pennant winning and current defending champs, Fidelity Bulldogs taking on the BAF Financial Stars. The action kicks off at 11am with game one. Game two will commence 30 minutes after the conclusion of game one with an estimated start time at 1pm.

BAPTIST SPORTS

COUNCIL: MEETING

THE Baptist Sports Council is scheduled to hold a general meeting 10am on September 19 at Jordan Prince Williams High School for all churches interested in participating in the BSC’s Mini-Sports Festival from October to December.

Competition will be held in volleyball, track and field and softball. A list of dates and venues for each sporting discipline will be discussed during the meeting. All churches interested in participating are urged to have two members present. Light refreshments will be served.

BASEBALL: JBLN

REGISTRATION

THE Junior Baseball League of Nassau announces that registration for the 2016 season for new and returning players is open for on-line registration on their website - www.jblnbaseball.com. The JBLN pre-season is slated to run November 11 to December 13. The 2016 season is set to start on January 13 with opening day ceremonies on Saturday, January 16. Registration will close at 2pm on Saturday, September 26. There will be registration payment and confirmation days at the JBLN fields 10am to 2pm on Saturdays, September 12, 19 and 26. Tryouts will be held 11am to 1pm on Saturday, October 3 and the 2016 draft will follow at 1pm at the baseball fields.
