Economics of gymnastics

EDITOR, The Tribune.

The Gymnastics event at Atlantis and what is the real revenue income - forget the filling of beds with children?

The spokesperson for Tourism, as is always his practice, emphasises the number of beds but never relates to the fact that 50 per cent of the 800 persons attending this gymnastics event, will be children who do not drink alcohol, gamble or eat heavily.

I checked what would be the going room rates at the time of this event, December 14, 2015 - the rates are usual even with forward bookings, but I am sure that by the time the event comes around, you will see a 50-60 per cent, as usual when Sports or Tourism has an event.

I do not see the economic reason for these events, they do not bring in spending patrons, so why have them? Oh, as the tourism spokesperson says: Fill the beds!

As usual, Tourism has it wrong.
