A MAN was shot and killed on Friday morning at an exclusive community in eastern New Providence following an altercation with his employer over outstanding payments, The Tribune understands.

According to initial police reports, shortly after 11.30am, two men were involved in an argument at the exclusive Palm Cay community off Yamacraw Road that resulted in one being shot with a shotgun. The man, who is believed to have been shot in the head, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police have not identified the victim, but The Tribune understands he is Richmond Jean. Police also said they have two "adult males" in custody in connection with the incident. They said a shotgun was recovered from the scene.

A statement from Palm Cay on Friday said that the altercation was between "an independent contractor and his employee" and made clear that no Palm Cay employees were involved.

The shooting pushes the country's murder count for 2015 to 108.

Chief Superintendent Clayton Fernander, acting officer-in-charge of the Central Detective Unit, said officers subsequently arrested two adult males as recovered a firearm "on scene".

Chief Supt Fernander said it was still early in police investigations, but are presently interviewing "a number of witnesses to try and find out what happened here".

He called for persons not to "take the law in their own hands".

"If there's a conflict reach out to somebody who will be able to give you good advice," he said. "Or reach out to the police. Come to the police. Nobody is above the law. Come to the police, let's sit down, and let's resolve the conflict."

The country's murder count has surpassed 100 for the fifth consecutive year and is on track to supersede last year's count of 123.

I thought that Palm Cay was a white community. I don't see one white person in the picture. Are all of those persons residents or do they have that many landscapers?

In this day and age in The Bahamas there is no such thing as a "white community". The closest one can get to such a thing would probably be Albany.

It's not just a white community and it's irrelevant that you even had to go down that path. Guess you missed the part though that it was construction crews, in which case there is zero wrong with the mix of police and construction personnel in and around that scene.

...and Palm Cay is in no way complete...it is still a VERY heavy construction zone throughout the property.

I was just getting ready to go on talk radio today and thank the government for a 'day when nobody was murdered'.

Isn't what Knottage said we should do....

Ah yes, These 'exclusive communities' where you have to show ID to drive inside. Looks like they need to be checking for weapons too.
