Sounds of the silly season

EDITOR, The Tribune.

It seems the silly-season is very much on us, from what I read and what I listen to on the radio.

It amazes me that Talk Show Hosts, Journalists and the Public are ill-informed as to Parliamentary Protocol and practice, and continually muddle up the British system with the American system.

Fact: Under the Bahamas Constitution, at any time, with a vote of the MPs on the Government side, or the Opposition, the Prime Minister or Leader of Opposition can be removed.

If there is such a perceived dissatisfaction on the PLP side with Mr Christie, then surely the MPs know what to do likewise for Dr Minnis. My bet is that they are too scared to do it, either side.

Election 2017 – whoever stands as Leader of a political party, had better swear on everything that they will serve for the full term of the next Parliament, unless they fall into ill-health, or do not have the support of the majority of MPs on their side of the House...we demand a potential Prime Minister to commit to that, as we will not accept the convenience of using one person, to get their party elected and then impose a person as Prime Minister after 24 months or even less.

Minister Nottage, yesterday seemed to blame the judiciary for the serious level of crime. The judges, Mr Minister, do not create the law, I believe you do or Parliament does. Sir Lynden Pindling warned us in the “80s”, mess with that stuff, you will die by the stuff – no truer words.

Making parents responsible for the under 18-year-old children’s behaviour – try getting that past a test of constitutionality.

Why do the Journalists, Talk Show Hosts and the Public blame the young people for the crime when to my knowledge there has not been one person charged with murder who is under 18 years old? The majority of the murderers and victims are over 25-26 years.

Should URCA regulate the qualification of Talk Show Hosts? Certainly they, URCA should have training seminars before the persons hit the airwaves and OMG, some dish out so much rubbish daily, are too full of their opinions, make little sense and embrace that from the chronic callers. Is this opening correctly the “air-waves?” Thank God there is an OFF switch!
