Tropical Storm Ida "no current threat to land"

TROPICAL Storm Ida has become the ninth named storm of the 2015 Atlantic hurricane season, moving north west over open waters 1,100 miles west of the Cape Verde islands.

Ida was named on Friday night and is expected to strengthen as sea surface temperatures are warm, wind shear is generally low and there is ample moisture in the area. Forecasters say Ida is not a threat to land over the next five days.

The storm was moving west northwest at 14mph with maximum sustained winds of 40mph on Saturday afternoon.
