Bethel: PLP chair ‘delusional’ on Baha Mar

FREE National Movement Senator Carl Bethel said yesterday that Progressive Liberal Party Chairman Bradley Roberts is “delusional” about the FNM’s position on Baha Mar.

“We have and continue to maintain (that) we prefer mediation over liquidation as the avenue to a more efficient resolution to the Baha Mar debacle,” Mr Bethel said in a statement yesterday.

“It is in no way unpatriotic to have a difference of opinion but rather healthy to express alternatives to a position that has so far yielded apparent prolonged negative conversation about Baha Mar and by extension, the Bahamas. I further remind Mr Roberts, that our position is shared by the Minister of Tourism (Obie Wilchcombe) and other professionals, including the Bahamas Chamber of Commerce.

“In short, we can only conclude that Mr Roberts is either delusional or is misleading the Bahamian public; any of the two would not surprise me. The Free National Movement is extremely concerned for the well-being of all Bahamians.”

Last week, Mr Roberts declared that the Delaware Bankruptcy Court’s decision to throw out the majority of Baha Mar’s Chapter 11 bankruptcy cases in the United States was a major victory for the country’s sovereignty and citizenry.

Mr Roberts also invited the FNM to “eat crow” for backing the US petition and criticising the government’s Supreme Court bid to wind up the resort.

Mr Roberts added that the country would have “crashed and burned long ago” had FNM Leader Dr Hubert Minnis been prime minister during this challenging time.
