TWO men were shot and killed in two separate incidents over the weekend, taking the country’s murder count to 110 for the year, according to The Tribune’s records.

The latest homicide took place shortly after 1pm on Sunday off Eneas Street. It marked the third homicide in three days in the capital.

Police said the victim was standing in front of his home off Meadow Street when he was approached by four men in a gold coloured Honda Stream. The suspects, all armed with handguns, shot the victim several times before fleeing the area.

The victim was rushed to hospital in serious condition but died a short time later. Police have not officially identified the victim but The Tribune understands he is Dwayne Omar Thurston Jr.

The second homicide took place early on Saturday in the parking lot of a nightclub.

According to reports, shortly after 2am on Saturday, the victim was standing in the parking lot of a nightclub on Madeira Street, when the occupants of a blue Honda pulled up and shot him several times before speeding away.

He was rushed to hospital by ambulance in critical condition but later died of his injuries.

Police have not released a motive for the shooting but sources say the victim was involved in an argument with several men inside the nightclub, moments before the shooting.

The victim has not been officially identified but The Tribune understands he is Carson Farrington, one of several men who was wanted in connection with murder in 2014.

Last November, police issued an all points bulletin for him. He turned himself into police several days after the bulletin was issued. The Tribune understands he was never charged in connection with the investigation.

Police are also still investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting death of a man on Friday at Palm Cay in eastern New Providence.

According to initial police reports, shortly after 11.30am, two men were involved in an argument at the exclusive Palm Cay community off Yamacraw Road that resulted in one being shot with a shotgun.

The victim, who was shot in the head, was pronounced dead at the scene. Police have not identified the victim, but The Tribune understands he is Richmond Jean, a Haitian. The argument is believed to have been between the man, who was a painter, and a contractor over outstanding payments.

On Friday, police said they had two adult males in custody in connection with the incident. A shotgun was also recovered from the scene.

A statement from the gated community on Friday said that the argument was between “an independent contractor and his employee” and made clear that no Palm Cay employees were involved.

At the scene, Chief Superintendent Clayton Fernander, acting officer-in-charge of the Central Detective Unit, called for persons not to “take the law in their own hands” in resolving arguments.

“If there’s a conflict, reach out to somebody who will be able to give you good advice,” he said. “Or reach out to the police. Come to the police. Nobody is above the law. Come to the police, let’s sit down, and let’s resolve the conflict.”

Anyone with information on any of these homicides is asked to contact police at 911 or 919, the Central Detective Unit at 502-9991or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 328-TIPS.

I just did a google search and was astounded how many posts came up about crime in the Bahamas.

I could not find out how many in 2014 but this is what is on the net.

2010 - 94 2011 - 127 2012 - 111 2013 - 120 2014 - ? 2015 - 110 so far with just over 3 months to go.

That's horrible. I'm willing to accept it now. The Bahamas is finished.

I am sure that the Attorney General and her Assistant will create a new definition of murder to sanitize the murder statistics during the 2012-17 term ................ SMH

I am sure it will read something like ........"a killing that excludes drug, revenge or gang -involved shootings"

Seems like HONDAS are the vehicle of choice for many crimes.

We are solidly headed to recording 150 murders this year. Speaking not too long ago to someone who themselves was a murder victim, this person claimed that there is a well oiled killing machine in this country. While many believe it is a case of one set of bad boys killing up another set, apparently it is much deeper than that. This person claims that the power on the police force does not lie with the commissioner but is shared between a clan of about five senior officers. That is part of the problem and a suggestion is that the commissioner shuffle his officers to break up this clan.

When the gov't is too busy scheming how to get rich, they forget to govern. With an impotent gov't, won't actual leaders form their own followers? The result is that clan mentality john mentions, were a group looks out for it's own, even in the police force.

The murder problem is because a house divided cannot stand
