Clear the clutter

EDITOR, The Tribune

I am not on Facebook, but I did see, over the weekend, a post by Ed Fields on the disgusting and disgraceful garbage dump next to “Retirement Park” on what looked to be Mackey and Ernest Streets. An excellent exposé, Mr Fields.

On another, but similar subject, what I am curious to know is how the Government Lands and Surveys Department has always been maintained in pristine condition, while all other Government buildings, almost without exception, appear to have come through a civil war some many years ago.

As one drives along Bay Street, and just past the House and Senate, the old Adderley building and annex is an absolute disgrace to the Government and the people of this country. Unpainted for years, shutters hanging off, or just swinging in the breeze, it is just a disgusting mess and right in the middle of the town.

But then a mile or so further down the road, we come to Lands and Surveys and one has to wonder: is this the same Government as the one in Rawson Square ?

Perhaps Lands and Surveys is just rented by the Government, and that would explain it. But if not, why the extreme juxtaposition? And I am not suggesting letting Lands and Surveys disintegrate as well.
