Bahamas Autism Awareness Campaign. - Nassau Airport Development (NAD) company has presented Reach Bahamas with a donation that included contributions made by generous passengers who recently traveled through Lynden Pindling International Airport (LPIA). Travellers participated by depositing their contributions into NAD’s “Give. Change.” donation boxes, which are stationed in the US and Domestic/International terminals. The Persis Rodgers Home for the Aged, the Children’s Emergency Hostel and the National Museum of The Bahamas have all received donations through the “Give. Change.” program so far.

Cycling Club Bahamas. - Upcoming events:

Saturday - leaving 6am sharp from Harbour Bay Shopping Centre in front of First Caribbean Bank 30 miles headed west. In order to complete this ride, it is recommended that you have done some recent cycling! Leaving P/I Bridges optional at the end. The pace will range from 18–20+mph, two-hour duration.

Sunday - leaving 6am sharp from Harbour Bay Shopping Centre in front of First Caribbean Bank, 40-50 miles headed east. This ride is not recommended if you have not cycled recently or first timers! P/I Bridges optional at the end. The pace will range from 18–20+mph, 3-3.5 hour duration (cyclists are invited to join in anywhere along the route).

October 9-12 - Run For Pompey Marathon, Exuma www.runforpompey.com.

November 7 - Conchman Sprint Triathlon, Taino Beach, Grand Bahama. http://www.conchman.com.

November 7 – cycling event in Exuma. Formal registration is now open for the Great Exuma Charity Bike Ride. www.rideforexuma.com.

November 8 – UWC Triathlon, Jaws Beach, Nassau, Bahamas.

November 22 – Bahamas Half, Arawak Cay. Online registration now open at www.bahamashalf.com.

Morning rides west - Wednesday and Friday, 4:45am, Cable Beach Police Station, West Bay Street, 20-mile ride route. Headed East to Montague & return. One-hour duration. Cyclists capable of 14+mph welcome. Ride leaves promptly (cyclists are invited to join in anywhere along the route). Afternoon rides west - Tuesdays and Thursdays, leaving 5:30pm sharp, parking lot next to Lyford Cay Gas Station. 18 or 24 miles depending if you do second loop. This is an advanced cyclist’s ride. The pace will range from 20+mph. Intermediate 18-22mph, see Spyder

Morning ride east - Tuesdays & Thursdays, leaving 5am sharp, start/end Seagrapes Shopping Centre (under the big sign), East Prince Charles Drive: 1-1.5 hour duration. Cyclists capable of 14+mph welcome. Prince Charles Dr-Eastern Road-Shirley St-Church St-East Bay-Eastern Road- Prince Charles. Please have lights attached to your bike.

Kiwanis Aktion Club of Fort Montagu. - It was a beautiful and memorable Thursday evening on September 10, when the Kiwanis Aktion Club of Fort Montagu new administrative team of 2015-2016 was installed at a glitzy banquet affair held at the Scouts Association of The Bahamas. Dolphin Drive.

The guest speaker was Melanie Griffin, Minister of Social Services & Community Development.

Melford Clarke, district administrator of the Service Leadership Program (SLP), installed the new officers and Lieutenant Governor 2014-2015. L Andrea Whyte pinned the new officers 2015-2016.

The new board members are: president Kevin Archer, immediate past president James Connolly, vice-president Jevaisian Stuart, secretary Christopher Rolle, treasurer Brenville Dorsett. Directors are Lynden Rahming, Reyo Cox and Alvia Penn.

In attendance were parents, families and friends. Also present were 2014-2015 president Aldeka Thompson, our sponsoring club Kiwanis Club of Fort Montagu and members, Lieutenant Governor Designate 2015-2016 Alfred Poitier and 2016-2017 Lieutenant Governor Elect Benjamin Whyte. The photos were taken by 2015-2016 President Designate Christopher Rahming from the Kiwanis Club of Cable Beach.

The Aktion Club of Fort Montagu (Adult with Disability) meets every 1st & 3rd Thursday in the month from 6-7pm at Addington House, Sands Road. To learn more, visit www.aktionclub.org.

Rotaract Club of East Nassau. - On Monday, September 7, in celebration of International Literacy Day, The Rotaract Club of East Nassau partnered with the Brighter Bahamas Foundation to hold a book reading with the EarlyAct Club of Queens College. The Brighter Bahamas Foundation was created to promote literacy in The Bahamas with a focus on young children. Their mission is to improve the lives of all Bahamians by encouraging reading from a young age and ensuring universal access to children’s literature. It was an interactive service event as members read excerpts from Charlotte’s Web and discussed with the youngest branch of Rotary why education and literacy are important. The Brighter Bahamas Foundation also donated books to the Queens College library.

On Saturday, September 19, the Rotaract & Rotary Clubs of East Nassau held a wine tasting at 1er Cru. This event was open to the public to promote membership and provide more information on Rotaract & Rotary. It was a great night for fellowship and networking while sampling great wines.
