THE Free National Movement on Friday announced that the party has officially accepted the application of Leonard Sands, welcoming him as a member in good standing.

Mr Sands is a Construction Engineer with an Associate Degree in Architecture from the College of The Bahamas and a Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Engineering Technology from Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University.

Managing Director of Sandbank Construction, Mr Sands also serves as Vice President of Public Relations on the board of the Bahamian Contractors Association.

Mr Sands is considered a son of the Bain and Grants Town community, actively involved with its residents and often partners with the community in carrying out programs and events that supports the community. He and his wife, Christina Kenny-Sands, are members of the congragation at Bahamas Harvest Church.

As a result of his passionate belief that the future of the Bahamas lies in a skilled and educated population, Mr Sands’ firm has adopted Albury Sayle Primary School where he supports their efforts by providing help to deserving students. He also serves as an adjunct professor in the school of Mathematics, Physics and Technology at The College of The Bahamas.

Mr Sands said: “I am proud to join this organisation because I am convinced that the Free National Movement is the only party that is capable of moving the Bahamian people from promise to possession.”

It is good news, and it will be GREAT news if he starts a trend for well qualified, successful, and socially committed, movers and shakers to publicly commit to the FNM, the ONLY possible alternative to the corrupt PLP!!

But the FNM won't solve any of our critical issues either. As a matter of fact, they're the reason that we're stuck with the PLP now!

Bahamians couldn't wait to vote out the FNM in 2012. Now all of a sudden we're assuming they're the answer???? This is the textbook definition of insanity. Why would you spit out a rotten apple, only to start chewing a rotten pear.... only to find out that you don't like the rotten pear either, so now you're back to eating the rotten apple??? Does this make sense to you??? No disrespect, Wideawake..... but you seem like a staunch FNM supporter. Only people who stand to benefit directly from either one of these parties support them as blindly as you do.

Cobalt, wrong again! I am most certainly not "a staunch supporter" of the FNM, nor am I a great fan of HAM, nor do I seek any patronage from any political party!

We are faced with the choice between two deeply flawed parties! I simply believe that at present, the FNM is LESS flawed than the PLP. We all MUST vote, so even if we vote for the lesser of two evils, that still represents a valid choice, and is better than not voting, or wasting a vote on any third party that we know, bearing in mind our history, is doomed to failure.

My other thought when considering a choice between two, less than than perfect, parties is;

WHEN IN DOUBT, VOTE THEM OUT!!...... Politicians are like weeds; we need to pull them up every five years to minimize how deep their political roots grow into the economy, and to prevent the leaders of our government getting too comfortable in the jobs WE HAVE GIVEN THEM!!!!

Ok.... I see where you're coming from. Logically, I guess you have a pretty valid argument. And I like your "weeds" illustration.

Plus with the DNA trifling the way that they are, I guess we have to choose between the lesser of two evils. (Sigh)

Lesser of two evils is right. I can't believe that we still don't have anyone we WANT to vote. We simply need to get the PLP out. This is past ridiculous!

Cobalt you are correct. Why all of a sudden the FNM has all of the answers. Their leader was a member of the FNM cabinet. The problems the Bahamas is facing are not new. The most troubling to me are the number of persons losing their lives to violence. It makes me really sad.

℅ bolt,

No one knows if the new FNM has the answer, but we do know the old/existing PLP categorically does not have any answers. If they did, the country would not be the corrupt, dangerous hole it currently is, on the verge of economic collapse.

Only a blind idiot would vote the same people in again, hoping for a different result.

Now, if the PLP old guard (I.e. Corrupt, all-for-me current administration) were to be kicked to the curb by new faces, then maybe, just maybe the PLP would be worth looking at, but PGC, who has single-handedly sent this country into the crapper with his complete lack of vision or concern for the Bahamas, is giving every indication he will make sure, by whatever corrupt means, he will stay in charge.

You'd have to be insane to give him another 5 years.

Yeah..... I can't argue that. You're right.

Hold firm Cobalt... voting for the lesser of two evils got us in this mess. I'd protest vote third party before switching back to the opposition for the umpteenth time in a row.

Stay in school a little longer! Your solution is to give the reins of government to a bunch of untried novices who come to us with a series of utopian ideals, but with zero experience of successful governance!!!

Getting elected in The Bahamas requires a party infrastructure, campaign experience and boots on the ground that only the PLP and the FNM possess!

Learn the history of the electoral process in The Bahamas!!

Small new political parties in The Bahamas, led by Self Important, Leadership seeking, Egomaniacal Political Operatives, ALWAYS FAIL!!!!

Ask Branville McCartney, B.J.Nottage, Fred Mitchell, Henry Bostwick and all of the other "Wannabe Prime Ministers" of the last eight election cycles what happened to their dreams of glory... THEY ALL FAILED!!!

It took the FNM fifteen years or more to defeat the PLP, and the FNM started off with a huge advantage over the cluster of mini parties that bit the dust during the past 40 years! The FNM started as the Dissident Eight, that became the Free PLP and then became the FNM, and from the very beginning they had eight members sitting in the HOA!!

The DNA, without a single member in the HOA, has been forced to sit on the sidelines since the last election. McCartney's attempt to start his own party so he could be Prime Minister has been an ABJECT FAILURE!!

Bahamian voters must face reality; both FNM and PLP are less than perfect! Voting for the least flawed parties is our only valid choice!

Back to Mr Sands.... Word on the street is good packaging, eager, articulate but came with a warning not to do business with him. We can't afford folks getting into politics to ease their financial woes.

This deserved deeper scrutiny, and by an impartial non politically biased board. The FNM cannot afford to have morally or financially questionable persons within its association.

TTB Good luck trying to find a political slate of candidates who are beyond reproach morally, financially, ethically, and spiritually!!!

The best we can hope for is, morally: trying to live their life in a righteous manner and successfully fighting temptations most of the time, financially: coping with bills with no court cases pending for fraud, ethically: usually honest with only small occasional lapses, and spiritually: seeking The Lord and recognizing self as being a sinner striving to do better!!!!

The standards you set are totally unrealistic!!! The Pope would probably qualify, but unfortunately he does not live in the Bahamas!!.... Bahamian politicians wouldn't qualify this side of eternity!!
