A MAN was arraigned in Magistrate’s Court yesterday on a murder charge.

Courtney Belton, 22, of Infant View Road appeared before Chief Magistrate Joyann Ferguson-Pratt accused of intentionally causing the death of Dwayne Thurston Jr on September 20.

Shortly after 1pm on the day in question, Thurston Jr was standing in front of his home off Meadow Street when he was approached by four men in a gold coloured Honda Stream.

The suspects, all armed with handguns, shot the victim several times before fleeing the area.

The victim was rushed to hospital in serious condition but died a short time later.

Belton was not required to enter a plea to the charge due to the nature of the offence and was told that the case would be fast-tracked to the Supreme Court at his next court appearance on November 16.

He was remanded to the Department of Correctional Services without bail.

However, he has the right to apply for bail to the Supreme Court.

Supporters outside the Nassau and South Street complex encouraged the accused to “stay strong” as he was escorted to a holding cell to await transport to prison.
