WORKERS GETTING GB SPORTS COMPLEX READY FOR HIGH SCHOOL TRACK AND FIELD NATIONALS

THE work is currently underway to get the Grand Bahama Sports Complex prepared for the hosting of the Bahamas High School Track and Field National Championships.

The championships is scheduled for April 11-13 and is expected to feature some 800-1,000 athletes from schools throughout the Bahamas.

There is some concern as to whether or not the St Augustine’s College Big Red Machine will compete in the meet, which is expected to include the nine secondary schools in Grand Bahama, 16 from New Providence and 15 from the various Family Islands.

Our Lucaya Hotel will serve as the official games village for the championships.

Work is currently underway at the Grand Bahama Sports Complex to ensure that the facility is in tip-top shape to host the championships, which will be held in Grand Bahama for only the second time in the history of its 28 years of existence.

The championships come on the heels of the 45th Carifta Games in St George’s, Grenada, where the Bahamas finished third behind Jamaica and Barbados. It also follows on the heels of the inaugural National High School Basketball Championships in Grand Bahama last month.

The championships also come right before the 2nd Chris Brown Bahamas Invitational on April 16 at the new Thomas A Robinson National Stadium.

Brown is expected to showcase some of the top athletes in the world in the one-day meet.
