The announced delay of National Health Insurance (NHI) “again” by the Minister of Health might cause more problems than this Administration could ever envisage. The ongoing debacle of CLICO has made NHI urgently necessary.
It is the Ministry of Health itself that has published the staggering information that some 700 Bahamians die each year due to the unavailability of insurance.
Thousands of uninsured Bahamians await the start of NHI and another delay has dashed their hope.
While all the logistics for the implementation of NHI are understandable, government must give greater priority to this programme.
If it is true, as we believe, “that the health of a nation is the wealth of a nation” then we must not be slow to cause this programme to be manifested.
