IN the Caribbean Showdown, the Bahamas versus Jamaica, Meacher ‘Pain’ Major and Jermaine ‘Choo Choo’ Mackey made their return to professional boxing with two impressive victories at the Kendal Isaacs Gymnasium on Friday night.

Competing in the super featherweight main event, Major secured a second round technical knockout over Martin ‘Ironfist’ Anderson. “I’m not where I need to be. I feel as if it was a B-plus performance. I feel like I could do better,” said Major, who got back on track after suffering an injury in his no contest match against Roger Rosa on December 5, 2014 at the same venue in his last match. “I went into the ring a little cold, but I don’t have any excuses.”

With the win, the 34-year-old 5-foot-7 Major improved his win-loss-draw record to 22-6-1. Martin, who hails from Savannah-La-Mar, Jamaica, dropped to 1-8-1.

Mackey, in the light heavyweight co-main event, pulled off a second round TKO over Lloyd ‘the Punisher’ Smith.

“He wanted to move a lot, but I had no plans of moving,” said Mackey, who got back in the ring for the first time since losing his five straight decision to Schiller Hyppolite on March 28, 2014, in the Lac Leamy Casino in Gatineau, Quebec, Canada.

“My plans was to come straight at him, get the ring rust off. He was getting some punches in and so it was a little difficult at first, but hey, I came up with the uppercut and got the punch before he got his and with a straight right, I stunned him and that was the end of the night.”

Mackey, 35-6, improved his record to 19-8. Smith, who had made his pro debut here at Nirvana Beach when he suffered a loss to Alpachino Allen on December 1, 2006, remained winless in nine matches.

On the undercard, Anthony ‘Psycho’ Woods won a split decision over Glenroy ‘Bumpy’ Beckford as the 31-year-old pushed his record to 9-20 with his opponent falling to 3-11.

And Lester Brown went the distance for a draw against Toriano Nicholas as he pushed his young record to 2-0-1, while Nicholas dropped to 0-1-1.
