THE family of Charles McCartney, the 78-year-old Rotarian shot in his Ruby Avenue home early on Saturday, said yesterday while he isn’t “out of the woods just yet”, he is stabilised and holding his own.

Janeen McCartney, his wife, said that doctors at the Princess Margaret Hospital (PMH) are monitoring him closely, “taking it moment-by-moment, day-by-day”.

Mrs McCartney said she and her children have remained near her husband, praying that he will make a full recovery.

Mr McCartney was shot about the body during an attempted home invasion at his home off West Bay Street around 4am on Saturday. According to reports, he was responding to a noise in a section of his house when he discovered a man attempting to enter the home through a window. Mr McCartney suffered five gunshot wounds.

He was taken to the PMH, where he underwent emergency surgery for bullet wounds in his stomach and thigh. He is now in the Intensive Care Unit. On Saturday the family appealed to the public for blood donors.
