Damian Neville suffers spinal injury in rugby training accident

DAMIAN Neville, a well known local sportsman, suffered a serious spinal injury on Tuesday night after an accident during the Bahamas rugby team’s preparations for their match with Mexico next month.

Mr Neville was taken to Doctors Hospital and underwent surgery on his vertebrae after suffering the injury when he was helping with one of the training drills at the Winton Rugby Centre.

In an attempt to protect an injured shoulder from impact, it is reported that Mr Neville - an avid rugby fan who practices regularly with the squad - lowered his head shortly before contact with another player, resulting in him suffering a ‘jammed’ neck.

Yesterday he was reported to be moving his arms and having feeling back in his legs but remained in intensive care. Mr Neville, a lawyer with Graham Thompson, is known for his soccer prowess.

The Bahamas play Mexico in an international match at Winton on May 7.
