ADD another to the growing list of opportunities for young Bahamian basketball players to display their skillset.

The first Top Elite Basketball Showcase is scheduled for 3:45-7:45pm April 28-29 at the AF Adderley Gymnasium.

The showcase will feature both male and females from grades 9-12 along with graduate unattached players.

Several scouts and coaches from visiting US programmes will be in attendance, including those representing Claflin University, Indian River College, St Thomas University, Missouri Valley College, Lake Mary Prep, Gulliver Prep, Evelyn Mack Academy and others.

Casey Autenreith, head coach at St Louis Christian Academy, said he looks to add to the list of Bahamian players which have passed through the programme in recent years.

“I’m really excited about this event and really appreciate coach [Stephen] Strachan and coach [Rodney] Curry’s work that they put into the event to make it possible for us to be able to come down and check you guys out,” he said.

“I’ve been coming to the Bahamas for the last six years and have had a lot of really good players come through our programme from the Bahamas that have moved on and played at the college level.

“A couple of names you guys may be familiar with, Anthony Pratt, Nate Bethel and Rayford Rigby are all kids we have had coming out of Nassau and we are looking for the next crop. We are looking forward to seeing you guys. We want to see as many kids as we can so we are looking forward to the next few days.”

Alvin Pegue, Lake Mary Prep in Lake Mary Florida said: I coach on both the boys varsity and junior varsity teams but I am also looking for talented female basketball players,” he said,  “I’m very excited to attend this showcase and I’m looking forward to seeing all the talent.”

Brittany Campbell, head coach of  the women’s team at Indian River State College will also represent teams from Goegretown and the men’s team from Missouri Valley College.

“I am honoured to be attending the first annual top elite showcase,” she said, “I can’t want to see what the talent is like in the Bahamas and I’m looking forward to meeting the players.”
