Woman dies, girl wounded in family shooting on Poitier Avenue

THE bloodiest month of the year ended with another murder on Wednesday night, the 13th in November, when one woman died and four others - including a young girl - were injured in a multiple shooting of a family on Poitier Avenue.

Police reported that the family had just pulled up to their home when two men with firearms pounced on them and fired several shots before fleeing on foot. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene while two other adult females, the young girl and a teenage boy were rushed to hospital. The boy is listed as in serious condition while the other three are said to be stable.

Assistant Police Commissioner Stephen Dean said that police were called after they received reports of gunshots shortly after 11pm. When officers arrived, they found five people had been shot with one woman dead.

December began with another murder as a man, who had been talking to a woman in front of his business establishment on Ernest Street, off Mackey Street, around midnight, was held up by two men in a silver coloured Honda. According to police he ran off but was chased down by the two gunmen and was shot. The gunmen sped off while the victim was rushed to hospital by private vehicle where he died around 12.45am on Thursday.

The fatalities took the total of murders in the Bahamas in 2016 so far to 99, according to The Tribune's records.

In a further incident, two men walking on Cowpen Road around midnight were shot at several times by the occupants of a silver vehicle before it sped off. The two men were transported to hospital, where their condition is listed as stable.

Investigations are ongoing in all of these incidents.

Hope they find them (who did this) and the punishment fits the crime a thousand times over. No reason for this type of senseless, bloody shooting and murder in this country. What can a 16 y/o do that warrants his entire family being shot up like dogs and some killed?. Find them and put them away for ever! Not only the shooters but the ones who put the hit out.
