Pilot rescued by boaters after plane crashes in sea

AVIATION officials are investigating a plane crash that occurred in waters near Eleuthera on Monday.

According to the Bahamas Air Accident Investigation Department, at approximately 3.20pm, a single engine Piper Cherokee aircraft, registration N8700Q, crashed into waters shortly after takeoff from the North Eleuthera Airport en route to Abaco, investigator Kendall Dorsett Jr said.

The pilot was the sole occupant and was successfully recovered from the waters near Pigeon Cay by nearby boaters.

The department is investigating the crash.
