After day off, Fed Cup team returns to action today at Americas Group II Tie

AFTER having a day off, the Bahamas Fed Cup is expected to return to action today at the Americas Group II Tie at the Centro De Tenis Honda in Bayamon, Puerto Rico.

The Bahamas, captained by Ricardo Demeritte, will close out round robin play when they take on Puerto Rico in their third match in Pool B.

The combination of Iesha Shepherd, Isabel Donaldson, Sierra Donaldson and Lauren Daxon lost their first two matches played so far.

On Monday, the Bahamas lost 3-0 to Guatemala as Isabel Donaldson lost 6-0, 6-0 to Kirsten-Andrea Weedon and Shepherd lost 6-3, 6-1 to Melissa Morales. In doubles, Daxon and Sierra Donaldson lost 6-0, 6-0 to Morales and Weedon.

The team came back on Tuesday and suffered a 2-1 decision to the Dominican Republic. Isabel Donaldson lost 6-2, 1-6, 6-2 to Laura Lissette Quezada Martinez, but Shepherd won 6-1, 6-1 over Luisanna Rodriguez.

In the pivotal doubles, Isabel Donaldson and Shepherd lost 7-6 (9), 6-2 to Martinez and Rodriquez.

The winner of each pool will playoff against the No.2 team in the other pool to determine which two nations will advance to the Americas Zone Group One in 2017.

The remaining teams will end up playing for the remaining positions. However, the nation finishing fifth in pool B will not compete in the positional playoffs.

The teams playing in pool A are Venezuela, Chile, Honduras and Costa Rica.
