THE partially decomposed body of a man was discovered in bushes in Bimini early yesterday morning.

The discovery was made shorty after 10am in Alice Town near the Bimini All Age School.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Stephen Dean said the body had “apparent injuries” and police are investigating the incident as a homicide.

This latest killing brought the country’s murder count to 10 for the year, according to The Tribune’s records.

Police have released little information surrounding the incident, but ACP Dean said a team of officers from Grand Bahama are in Bimini assisting with the investigation. A man is in custody in connection with the incident.

Police have not identified the victim but sources say he is 22-year-old Rodrige Eliassiant.

Eliassiant was reported missing by relatives last Saturday. According to sources, he was involved in a fight with several men in Bimini before he disappeared. He had moved to Bimini from New Providence in December for work.

In Nassau the police are also asking for the public’s help in solving the shooting death of a man late Tuesday night.

According to reports, the victim was standing outside a residence in South Beach when he was approached by two men in a vehicle.

The men fired several shots at the victim before fleeing the area in an unknown direction.

The victim was taken to hospital by private vehicle, however the occupants of the car left him on the floor of the hospital’s entrance.

The victim died in hospital.

Police have not released the victim’s identity but The Tribune understands he is 31-year-old Tito Davis.

Anyone with information on any of these incidents is asked to contact police at 911 or 919, the Central Detective Unit at 502-9991, the Bimini police station at 347-3144, or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 328-TIPS.

Investigations into both incidents continue.
