Strachan family, Mt Ararat Baptist among winners of Family Fun Run/Walk Race

THE Strachan family and Mt Ararat Baptist Church were among the big winners of the Baptist Sports Council’s 2016 AID Family Fun Run/Walk Race at Charles W Saunders High School on Saturday.

While David Strachan was the overall winner in the walk race in 26 minutes and 30 seconds, his wife Margo Strachan was the first female finisher, placing sixth overall in 31.15. Their daughter, Ms Bahamas Teenager Davette Strachan, was the winner of the female under-20 division after she crossed the finish line in 11th place overall in 34.42.

The walkers left the Charles W Saunders High School and travelled north though Hillside Park to Bernard Road, travelled west on Bernard Road to the Village Road round-a-bout. They turned onto Soldier Road and travelled south to Prince Charles Drive and east to Jean Street where they finished in front of the Charles W Saunders High School.

There was also a 4.2 mile run that saw Roy Sanchez emerge as the winner in 25:26.

Dianne Murray-Flowers was the first female finisher, coming in third in 32.07.

The runners travelled from the Charles W Saunders High School south to Prince Charles Drive, east to Fox Hill Road, north to Bernard Road, west to Hillside Park and south back to the finish line in front of the Charles W Saunders High School.

At the end of the event, Mt Ararat repeated as the champions, retaining their crown in the Church category. 

The BSC thanked the Bahamas Association of Certified Officials (BACO) for once again officiating the meet and the Royal Bahamas Police Force for providing the police escort.

Special thanks were also given to the Bahamas National Baptist Missionary and Educational Convention and the Youth Department as well as AID, Doc’s Pharmacy, Tito Moss Construction, Harrison Petty, Gatorade, Coca-Cola, Melia Resort, Dominoes Pizza and RND Cinemas for their assistance in providing some of the prizes.
